How we get our start?
Hello, I am Jeff Sberna the owner and the designer of the Chisel Ripper. As I started to make the first prototype my original idea was to just to break through the hardpan. I needed a way to address drainage issues with our small 120 HP tractor. As the project progressed, I realized with a few changes I could accomplish much more.
Not only does the Chisel Ripper break up the hardpan it also does an excellent job of dealing with all compaction issues. The way it is set up the soil is not turned. It is shattered by the forward motion of uniquely angled shovels. By not turning the soil it allows the residue to be left on the top three or so inches of the soil where it will compost. With complete shattering, it leaves the soil in ideal shape even in not so ideal conditions. With my design, air is forced thoroughly into the tilled soil. My ripper can do this more efficiently than any other primary tillage tool on the market because of the limited HP needed. Another benefit that I came across when using the Chisel Ripper is that it helps to let the frost penetrate deeper into the soil. This help with the natural de-compaction.
As a farmer, when it came to the final design of the machine I wanted a quality tool that was as user-friendly as possible. If you hook up to a FarmBuilt Chisel Ripper, you will find it pulls more smoothly than the others. It is the most enjoyable primary tillage tools you will ever use. Especially as we all get older and look for a less stressful day without the bounce and jerking that some tools give.
